Lightning Suspected in Three Morning House Fires

(May 23, 2016) Fire investigators suspect lightning caused three Frisco house fires on Monday morning. No one was injured. Investigators say all three homes suffered “moderate to major damage”. Investigators estimate damages range from $50,000 - $150,00, per home, adding two of the three roofs will need to be replaced.

Dispatch was alerted to the first fire at 5200 Evening Sun at 8:28 a.m. The first fire units arrived on scene at 8:37 a.m. In this case, residents initially reported their stove was on fire. Investigators suspect lightning struck the home’s gas line, which ruptured at the back of the appliance. The fire was reported ‘out’ at 9:06 a.m.

Within five minutes of the first fire being reported, neighbors reported a second fire in the 9700 block of Montezuma Way. In that case, the fire was reported to dispatch at 8:33 a.m. The first units responded to the scene by 8:40 a.m. and the fire was reported ‘out’ at 8:57 a.m. The family pet escaped injury.

The third fire was reported to dispatch at 10:18 a.m. The first fire units responded to the 13000 block of Hermitage at 10:24 a.m., and the fire was reported ‘out’ by 10:43 a.m.

Frisco Fire responded with two engines, a ladder truck, an ambulance and the department’s ‘Rescue’ unit in all three incidents. The department’s ‘Light and Air’ unit was utilized in the second fire.
